Mohammed Kazem (U.A.E)

Mohammed Kazem is a renowned multi-media artist and curator who uses photography, video, digital technologies as well as traditional practices such as painting and drawing to convey or support his concepts. His work engages current global transformations in the social, political, and natural environments. To quote the artist: “Through my work I reflect on the multiple events around me and raise issues closely related to specific aspects that have affected my personal biography, such as the changes in the UAE or situations I have experienced through my travels internationally”.

The artist collect various sundry objects and then documents them with photography, mapping their coordinates with GPS, recording their location as a trace of our present within a particular environment. In so doing he creates multiple dimensions of meaning that may incidentally alllude to political issues.

Mohammed Kazem was born in Dubai, U.A.E. in 1969. He first studied fine art at Emirates Fine Art Society and went on to learn music, and attend national and international art workshops, as well as teaching painting at Dubai Art Atelier.

Kazem’s works have been selected for Biennials and Exhibitions around the world for over two decades, including Moscow, Holland, Singapore, Japan, Egypt, India, Germany, and Cuba. He has also taken part in several Sharjah International Art Biennials and was awarded first prize for his installation. Kazem was the curator of the 8th Sharjah Biennial in 2007.  His works have been collected by private and public institutions such as Deutsche Bank, Museums in Doha, Sharjah, and Sittard, Holland.
